Mario Rigby

An Interview With Mario Rigby by Sarah Gafar

Khartoum- Mario Rigby, a 21-year-old explorer from Toronto set out on a 12,000 km walk from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt.

Maroa has spent two years walking across Arica, also trying to find his roots. Mario will soon end this trip, in November 14, 2017.

When Mario told his mother about the trip, she had a wild sense of humor by saying, “If you get hit by a car or crash into something, make sure you’ll be the first person to cross Africa in a wheel chair.” Mario started his trip with a 35 kg bag… To prepare himself, he walked for 14 days from Toronto to Montreal.

The above entry is a portion of 7th grader, Sarah Gafar’s, interview article on our guest speaker, Mario Rigby. She also described his scary encounters, such as kayaking across Lake Malawi with 4 meter waves, being shot at by Rebels while crossing a conflict zone in Mozambique and coming across and being surprised by an elephant in Kruger Park, in South Africa. Mario visited the 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classes and spoke to our students for an hour about his adventures.
